NBA Mock Draft Rules & Overview

June 5, 2010 3:10 pm

Welcome everyone to yet another NBA Mock Draft, hosted by I, GTucker, and company. Whether you are new to this contest or a yearly regular, I guarantee everyone will enjoy themselves! I think this could be the best mock draft we've ever had, and here, that is what we want: to build on every year and learn from our mistakes.

As most of you know, this site was made to house this mock draft to avoid spammers, and in my opinion, it's easier to communicate on this site. We will see if it runs up to par on this site; if it doesn't, we will move it back to CBS or somewhere else, but I doubt we'll have to do that. So new members, I welcome you to Ya Sports!

Now to the good stuff.

Overview

All of you should know that this contest is based on how you do with your selected team, whether you are building for a championship immediately, or building for the future. You will have a chance to claim your team soon (stay tuned for the team sign-up sheet.

Something new that I am going to try to incorporate to help speed up the draft and make it easier on people is the ability to co-own a team. In the past, we were lucky just to have every team have an owner and be active, but I think we have a very good group this year. Co-owning will be discussed later, but as of right now I'm just letting everyone know it is available.

Once you have chosen your team, we will have approximately 2-3 days to start trading picks and players. During this time you will need to decide if you are buying or selling, as it could be the most vital part of the entire draft.

After the trading period, we will begin the draft. Both Round One and Round Two will be picked, not just Round One. During the draft participants will also have the opportunity to continue to trade. Each GM will have 6 hours to make a pick. If you fail to make your pick, you will be given the best available according to NBA Draft. net, which will be one of the sites that will be used a good bit during this draft. Draft rules will also be discusse dmore in-depth later.

Once the draft has concluded, GMs will have another day or two to trade and look over their teams as the Committee of Personnel get ready for the Free Agency Period.

Free Agency will probably take a week or so to do with all the FA’s we have. We will have the players separated into smaller groups and GMs will have a certain amount of time to bid on them (probably 24 hours, but will be determined later).

Once Free Agency has concluded, we will have our ever-so fun Playoffs and Awards. GMs and the Committee of Personnel will discuss who should be in the playoffs and we will try to place the teams where we think they should go. When unveiled, it will be like the NCAA’s Selection Show.

When the matchups are set up (just like the NBA Playoffs), GMs will vote on who they think would win a 7 game series between the two teams, all the way up to the championship.

This is just a quick Overview of what will happen, but make sure to check out more with the Rules coming next. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Rules

Brief

• Every owner will need to keep up with each player’s salary, as well as the team salary so that you can trade and participate in Free Agency.

• You are responsible for your roster; if you fail to have it organized, you could be removed as a GM.

• If you would like to change your avatar to your team, that would be appreciated so that owners can tell who is who. It doesn’t have to be the logo, just something that is recognizable.

Trading

• All trades must be fair and reasonable and within $5 million dollars of each other. If the trade does not matchup money-wise, the deal will automatically be rejected.

• Trades must be approved by a member of the Committee of Personnel (Committee TBD)

• If a member of the Committee is part of a trade, he CAN NOT approve it. It must be approved by another member of the Committee.

• Trades in reality will not affect our draft; once the draft begins, those are the players you will have and be responsible for.

• You may trade draft picks, actually it is encouraged.

• Please keep track of your trades and make sure they are updated by a Committee of Personnel in the Trades Thread.

• Keep all trades talk in PM please. We do not want the board cluttered.

Draft

• Each GM will have 6 hours to make his pick.

• If a GM fails to make his pick, the best player available for that team will be given. The GM can come back to change the pick if a team HAS NOT already picked.

• We will draft the whole draft, not just the First Round.

• Trading is still available during the draft, so feel free to do so.

• Once you pick, update the draft board with your pick and every pick prior to yours. Not that hard.

• Feel free to voice your opinion on someone’s pick, but please don’t throw them under the bus. Knowledgeable opinions are fine.

• DO NOT NAME DROP. This could ruin the whole draft for others, so please keep your thoughts to yourself.

Rules for Free Agency will come soon as the time comes.

* The rules are subject too change if we see something is wrong or the rules are being abused.

When are we getting this thing started?

May 16, 2010 6:40 pm

Couple questions, when are we starting this thing up?  Are we doing it here or are on GT's website?  Are we doing FA's this time around?

No hurry to get back to me
